During the 2010 State of Union Address, President Obama's statement on the Supreme Court Ruling in Citizens United v. FEC

"With its ruling today, the Supreme Court has given a green light to a new stampede of special interest money in our politics. "Corporations have no consciences ....they are not themselves members of 'We the People.'"

In 1816, Thomas Jefferson wrote

"I hope we shall ... crush in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations which dare already to challenge our government in a trial of strength, and bid defiance to the laws of our country."
